The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It’s tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends. P.C. Cast is an award-winning fantasy and paranormal romance author, as well as an experienced speaker and teacher. Her novels have been awarded the prestigious Prism, Daphne du Maurier, Affaire du Coeur, and other awards. She lives and teaches in Oklahoma.
Kristin Cast has won awards for her poetry and journalism. She attends Northeastern State University, where she is working toward fulfilling her goal of becoming a biology teacher. E. Hinton's The Outsiders. It teaches about the beauty of being a social outcast, friendship, and finding your own inner spirituality.”—The Beltane Papers
“From the moment I stuck my face in this book it hooked me! Totally awesome new take on vampires! Marked is hot and dark and funny. It rocks!”—Gena Showalter, author of MTV’s Oh My Goth “Cast reeled me in from paragraph one. I snorted and giggled through the whole thing, and devoured it in one sitting.”—MaryJanice Davidson, New York Times best-selling author of the Undead series
“In 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres not only exist but are also tolerated by humans. Those whom the creatures ‘mark’ as special enter the House of Night school where they will either become vampyres themselves, or, if their body rejects the change, die. To Zoey, being marked is truly a blessing, though she's scared at first. She has never fit into the human world and has always felt she is destined for something else. Her grandmother, a descendant of the Cherokee, has always supported her emotionally, and it is she who takes the girl to her new school. But even there the teen stands apart from the others. Her mark from the Goddess Nyx is a special one, showing that her powers are very strong for one so young. At the House of Night, Zoey finds true friendship, loyalty, and romance as well as mistrust and deception. She realizes that all is not right in the vampyre world and that the problems she thought she left behind exist there as well. Readers will identify with many of the characters, especially the protagonist. The story moves quickly (a little too quickly at the end) and purposely leaves many unresolved issues. A good choice for those libraries serving fans of the occult, but be aware that the book contains some suggestive language and sex.”—Donna Rosenblum, School Library Journal

What Customers Say About Marked (House of Night, Book 1):
|
|
Well over Christmas Break i started this book and i finished all six books whithin that week. There will be crying, laughing (rib-cracking), yelling, and frustration throughout this book series. I will admit that i actually had this book on my shelf for a little while before i read it.
Hey i couldn't wait for it to come in the mail when i could just drive and pick it up. What it really boils down to is that you really, really, need to just pick a weekend or a day and start this book, because once you do it is guranteed that you will not be abloe to put the book down. I will not reveal anything important(i got a comment the last time about my spoiler alert so you'll have to read the books), but what i will say is that this book holds a group of friends that will turn your world upside down.
This book is the start of a remarkable series. When i finshed this book i drove to Books A Million to pick up the other six. Like i said i drove to Books A Million to buy the rest of the series and i have already pre-ordered the seventh book.
But hey in my defense i had just started school and Organic Chem was kicking my butt. I loved it and could not put it down.
I cant wait to read the rest of the series. Although, I wouldnt recommend it for a young teen, I thought books 1-3 are funny and interesting. For those of you who are looking for other vampire stories, Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels are also very good. So far, I have really enjoyed this series. I am an adult and a mother.
The language is immature to say the least. In the first few pages I realized that this is definitely a teenager's book. If you're over the age of 20 and you loved Twilight, then find something else, because this is a major disappointment. I loved the Twilight series, so I wanted to find something to read after I finished it. I heard about this series and decided to try it.
Zoey's "teen language" is so overdone. I consider myself a very tolerant person, but Marked should not be tolerated or endured by anyone. The language is filthy. For the first time in my life, I actually ripped a book to shreds.
This book made me want to vomit. I have never done an online review before, but I felt compelled to warn people about this poorly written Harry Potter/ Twilight wanna-be. This proves that anyone can get anything published. I can't believe this book got published.
The main character's first experience at Vampire Finishing School is walking up on a girl giving a guy oral sex in the hallway. Seriously, the authors should be ashamed of themselves. The author has created a character that puts down different groups of people including Christians and kids at school that fit into certain groups. No teenager actually talks like that-so much for the help from the author's daughter on shaping the language.
In the first chapter when the Tracker shows up and gives the main character, Zoey, a Harry Potter mark on the forehead, the Tracker's words are so stupid and ridiculous. The oral sex scene is unnecessary and vulgar. The fantasy writing is so bad, it is painful to read.
i read everyone of thease books within a 2 weeks time i couldnt put then down.i love twilight and other vamp books but i would have to say that this is a close one with twilight for me
